Rochester Falls

Take a dip at Rochester Falls

You’ll want your swimwear, towel and a camera for a visit to Rochester Falls. Famous for the jagged rectangular rocks that make up its cliff face, as well as featuring as a backdrop in numerous Bollywood movies, you’ll find this 10-metre-high waterfall in the south of Mauritius, just 2.5km away from Souillac.

Keen readers may well recognise the name of the falls, as it was inspired by Charlotte Bronte’s 1847 novel, Jane Eyre. This awe-inspiring waterfall provides a fantastic spot for a swim on a hot Mauritian day, as well as providing a dreamy backdrop for a picnic. However, we recommend avoiding a visit during or after heavy rain, as the area can become slippery and the water levels can rise.
