Located in the village of Vieux Grand Port on the southeast coast of the island, the Frederik Hendrik Museum takes you through 400 years of French and Dutch colonial history.
It’s housed in a building of French origin from the 18th century and the site is home to the ruins of Fort Frederik Hendrik, which was built by the Dutch in 1698.
The French building has its own historical significance, featuring a lodge, a prison, a bakery, a blacksmith workshop and a church in the grounds nearby. Inside the museum, find historic artefacts and intriguing objects from archaeological excavations that have taken place in the local area.
