This Saturday 15 June 2019 was blessed with a lovely sunny weather for the first session of a tree planting project. The project seeded by the SSIOM Regional 4 Upper Plaine Wilhems - Coordinating Committee and led by young adults aims at planting 1008 endemic trees by 20 October 2019 as an offering of love to our beloved Bhagawan Shree Sathya Sai Baba.

Mauritius, which was once an island covered by 100% of native forests. With colonisation, industrialisation and modernisation the area under native forests has dwindled to just 2,5%. In a bid to increasing the number of endemic trees in Mauritius.

Under the guidance of the officers of the forestry services department, around 45 participants comprising children, young adults and elders enthusiastically put hands together as they planted 200 trees. Younger ones experienced the joy of digging and planting as the elders assisted them in the process.

"Trees play a vital role in helping mankind to receive oxygen from the atmosphere while they absorb carbon dioxide exhaled by human beings. Hence the ancient favoured growing of trees to control atmospheric pollution"
Sri Sathya Sai Baba
