Professor Veda Narayanan at SS School: Swami’s favourite subjects are discipline, devotion and beauty!

Professor Vedanarayanan paid a visit to the Sathya Sai School, La Caverne, on Monday 29th October in the morning. It was indeed a tremendous honour, pleasure and privilege for the students and teaching as well as non-teaching staff to receive the eminent guest. He was accompanied by Brother Sham, Chairman of SSIOM.
Professor asked pupils how many of them like to come to school and talked about the school in Puttaparthi, how it is special as students are taught to practice Human Values. He advised the children to speak the Truth even if they have done a mistake and then try not to repeat the mistake.
Helping should be spontaneous. We should ever be ready to help all those in need; be it human beings or animals. To help does not mean in terms of money only, we can help with soothing words also.
He then explained how to keep the mind calm by regular recitation of the Gaytree Mantra. He demonstrated two techniques on how to increase memory power.
Next, he gave a beautiful explanation on the word ‘WATCH’.
He also explained about the importance of plants. One should not pull out the leaves or break plants unnecessarily. Because plants have life. But instead one should use the right way to do this action. Thus, he said- Talk to the plant lovingly.
MY DEAR PLANT WILL YOU GIVE ME YOUR FLOWER AND LOVINGLY? IT WILL GIVE WAY.
This determines our way of doing the action and is the value of NON-VIOLENCE.
In a very compassionate way, he nicely narrated the children how once Swami distributed ice-cream and then gave a nice description of the similarity between God and Ice-cream, that is, God is sweet, cool, soft and His heart melts like ice-cream.
He then added that bad thoughts will come but we must try not put into practice the bad thoughts.
He further elaborates that this school is a lab for the children or a training ground to practice values. Pupils study for the sake of exams but you children you have another bigger examination. And that examination is of Swami. You are the most fortunate one to study in Swami’s school. Swami’s favourite subjects are discipline, devotion and beauty.
As a foresighted and guiding master, he polished and paved the way for children to spend their holidays with moral and spiritual values learnt at school. He went further to say that one should not spend time on mobile or watching television only. Instead, they should try to do outdoor games or if they want to watch films; parents should put moral based stories.
Professor Vedanarayanan added that children have many hidden abilities in them. They must try to find that ability. Parents should not force children to choose the field they like but instead must let the children to do their own choice. Not all of them have academic inclination; some of them may be good at singing, dancing, drawing or many other things. Even the teachers at school are asked to work in such a way where we can pull out that hidden talent in the children.
Remember while doing an action if you think that your teachers or parents are not watching you, you are wrong. Someone is always watching you. That is God. He is residing within you.
