Jésus et la Noël

Writing

Jésus a, malheureusement   beaucoup souffert.

.. … (2) Merry Xmas to everybody.

Meaning of Xmas

We have been celebrating Christmas for many years but ask anyone what Christmas means to him/her. Almost each person, irrespective of age, will give the following as answer:

Gifts”.

How unfortunate that many of forget Jesus Christ and the message he has left for mankind during his short stay on earth. Living in a material world, religion and spirituality have no meaning for the great majority of people. Even attending the midnight mass has become mechanical for many since the focus is on gifts, gifts, gifts and nothing else.

Life is but a question of choice and the choice is between two paths. Which one would you choose? The somewhat hard path that demands some effort leading towards heaven or the easy, effortless  one leading towards hell. The choice is yours.

However, since the focus is on gifts, I’m providing those who can’t afford costly gifts with a list of gifts that do not cost money.

Listening Gift:  real listening to the person addressing you without any interruption.

Affection Gift:  being generous with appropriate hugs and pats on the back and also handholds.

Laughter Gift: sharing of jokes and funny stories.

Compliment Gift: giving simple and sincere compliments.

Favour Gift: going out of your way to offer help or to do some kind action.

The Gift of Love: Love your neighbour as thyself; give love to all those you come across.

( A short sketch for primary school children)

Announcer/MC:  Most children and even adults think only of Santa Claus/ Father Xmas) and gifts at this time of the year. None thinks about Jesus. In fact, Xmas is the time when we must think of Jesus and why God sent him among us .Let us see what Munny and Sweety think about XMAS.

Munny: Grand ma what is Xmas?

Sweety: Don’t you know, Munny. Xmas is the time when children receive gifts.

Grand ma: Yes, Sweety children receive gifts but remember that Xmas is also the day when Jesus Christ was born. Xmas is the birthday of Jesus Christ.

Munny: Yes, like Krishna he was born at midnight.

Grand ma: You are right. Jesus Christ was born in a manger at midnight.

Munny: A manger? What is a manger?

Grand ma: A manger is a stable, a place where horses are kept.

Sweety: Oh my God! Jesus was born in such a place. Why?

Grand ma: You know Sweety. The family was travelling; they could not get a room in a hotel. They were poor. So, they stayed in a stable when the child Jesus was born.

Munny: Dadi, is it true that Krishna was born in a prison?

Grandma: Yes, my child. Poor Krishna was born in a prison while Jesus was born in a stable but both were born at the same time.

Sweety: Oh! How sad! What was the mother of Jesus called?

Grandma: Mary was the name of his mother; his father’s name was Joseph.

Munny: Sai Baba’s mother was Easwaramma and his father Kondappa Raju. Am I right?

Sweety: Yes, you are right.

Grandma: You know children, both Krishna and Jesus had a difficult childhood. On Xmas we must not think only of gifts. We must remember Jesus and his message.

Sweety:. Dadi, Jesus said: Love thy neighbour like thyself.

Munny: Swami says: Love all, serve all.

Sweety: Jesus said: You must not kill.

Munny: Swami says: Love ever, hurt never.

Grandma: My sweet children, I see you know many things about Jesus and Swami.

Munny and Sweety: Yes, grandma. We learn all these things in our Bal Vikas classes.

Grandma: Good. What else do you know about Jesus and Swami?

Sweety: Jesus said: Love your mother and your father if you want to have a long life on earth.

Munny: Swami says: Consider your mother as God, consider your father as God. Always love them. You will get their blessings and will always be happy.

Grandma: Very good. But children do you know that many people did not like Jesus. They put a crown made of thorns on his head and they gave him a heavy cross to carry.

Munny and Sweety: Oh, my God!

Grandma: Then they nailed Jesus on the cross and he died on the cross. But Jesus loved everybody and he pardoned them all. We also must love everybody.

Sweety: Yes, Dadi. Swami says: “ Love all, serve all, this is the way of the Lord.”

Grandma: Very good. There is a kirtan starting with these words.  Can you sing it?

Sweety and Munny: Yes, yes. Friends come, come, join us. We’ll sing “Love all, serve all” together.

Some friends who were playing outside come and join Munny and Sweety. They all start singing together

When they finish, their Grandma says:

Grandma: Very good, you sing very well. Now sing along with me.

Grandma starts singing : ‘Jingle bell, jingle bell ‘ and the children join her’.

Holly Xmas to you all.
