(Port Louis, Mauritius, 17 February 2022) – Since border reopening, Mauritius has
implemented a comprehensive health protocol to safely welcome vaccinated travellers in
the country. Such measures have enabled France to move the destination to its green list
and lift all travel restrictions.
The French government has announced today that Mauritius has joined the “green”
category of countries. The announcement was made by the Secretary of State for Tourism,
Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. This classification was introduced on 9 June 2021 and has been
updated several times. The decision to add Mauritius to the green list is a very positive
signal.
Countries listed in the “green” category are considered by France as destinations where
the coronavirus is not actively circulating and where no worrying variants have been
detected. Therefore, France does not require any compelling reason, quarantine or
negative COVID-19 test upon return.
This encouraging decision is further strengthened by the measures announced yesterday
by the Prefecture of Reunion Island to ease travel restrictions with Mauritius. Travel
between the two islands is no longer subject to compelling reasons.
The protocols for entry into the country remain the same. To travel to Mauritius, French
visitors must simply provide proof of a complete vaccination schedule at least 14 days
prior to travel and a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure. Vaccinated
travellers will not have to undergo any particular formality upon their return to France and
will only have to present a complete vaccination schedule.
Vaccination in Mauritius began in late January 2021. To date, more than 74% of the total
population has been fully vaccinated. In order to ensure a smooth recovery of the tourism
sector, the destination has implemented protocols to protect both foreign visitors and the
local population.
